My parents worked as a migrant seasonal farmworker all of my life, I was fortunate to have hard-working parents because no matter how tough times got, they always put our education first and got us all the materials me and my siblings needed for school. I remember sitting under the tree in the shade waiting for my dad to come home from work because he would always get home with a huge smile and a piece of candy for us, he showed us that no matter what we had to give it all we got. Those little moments in life are what get me going to strive to do better so I can return all the support they have given me up until now. During my college career is when I started to work alongside my dad in the fields. All five years of my bachelor’s degree, every summer I would work alongside him, we would pick peaches, plums, nectarines, apples, and apricots. During these summers I learned how hard farm laborers worked from sun rise to almost sundown. Now that I have my bachelor’s degree my next step is to attend either PT or PA school, I know I must keep working hard in order to give back to my parents and I know one day I can. I would be a good investment because my dream is to become a future pediatric physical therapist or physician assistant and be able to help and give back to my fellow migrant workers. I not only want to give back to my parents for all the hard work they put into my education but also want to help the kids of other migrant farm workers. I want to be able to show that anyone can work hard and achieve their goal, and also be a remodel to other migrant kids so they can work hard and be the future of the generation that follows them.
