I am a first generation Mexican American, one of five children, and am the first in my family to be born in the United States. I also happen to be the first person in my family to attend a university after high school. My parents along with my older three siblings came to the U.S. from Mexico in hopes of giving us a better chance at life, which was not possible in Mexico. All my life, my parents, siblings and I have worked in Florida, Michigan on farms, sunrise to sunset. Throughout my life we have worked picking primarily blueberries and strawberries. To this day, my parents continue to be migrant workers. like them I have had to work my whole life just to survive. Unfortunately, my parents have been unable to help me pay for school; I have either worked to pay tuition or taken out loans. I am currently working on my undergrad at Western Michigan University, pursing a double major in Accountancy & Finance. Ultimately, I would like to receive my PhD in Accountancy from Stanford. I want to make my parents proud by being able to say I am the first Dr. in our family. I also want them to know that their sacrifices to come to a new country will not go in vain. And it is because of my arduous life experiences that have taught me to always be humble. I intend to use my education as a medium to give back to the community and help reduce the global inequality that exists today. My dream is to open a firm, where I can provide free financial consultation to under represented minorities and provide mentorship for young kids to stress the importance of education, in order to improve the quality of their lifestyle.
