As a child growing up, I saw my mother work long hours in the hot sun, cleaning plants and putting store tags inside the pots in order to raise her two children. I was always the last one to be picked up from day care and one of the first ones early in the morning. I still remember telling my mom as we were coming home from day care “mommy I’m really hungry” because it was 6pm and I hadn’t had a meal since lunch time. I knew since that age that I wanted to further my education because it was the only way I could prevent my life from mirroring that of my mother’s. She always pushed her two princesses to study hard, get the best grades and be the best students. Her repetitive speeches eventually affected me. I graduated summa cum laude in the top 1% of my high school and paved my way into Florida International University to further my education. I am currently majoring in Accounting and I will also major in Business Management. I plan to take my accounting degree and go to law school to become an immigration lawyer. I think that if you invest in me you’d be investing in not only my future but in the lives of many people because with my degree I will be able to help many people with the skills I acquire throughout my college experience. My dream is to be able to help people that are in the situation that I was in. I want to be able to help farmworkers and other people with taxes, money management and with immigration.
